Review & Giveaway – PinkTogether.com & General Mills #myblogspark

Now in it’s fifth year of creating hope, the Pink TogetherTM campaign gives women affected by breast cancer inspiration and helps them to realize they are not alone. It is a unique online community of people who have been touched by breast cancer and share a passion for the cause.

To share your own personal story about breast cancer, send messages of hope, or read about others personal journeys, visit PinkTogether.com. You can also meet the 2011 Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, and hear their amazing stories of courage and survival on both the website and the Pink Together YouTube Channel.

General Mills has partnered with this wonderful campaign to encourage personal connections. During the month of October, General Mills has agreed to donate $1 to the Komen organization for each Message Of Hope that is sent to someone that has shared their story on PinkTogether.com (up to $25,000). Additionally, General Mills will be making a very generous donation of $2 million dollars to the Komen organization. Also, General Mills will be turning the packaging of participating products pink in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Now, for the first time in their history of five years,PinkTogether.com is letting its consumers will get to decide how half of the $2 million donation will be spent between two different Komen programs: the Treatment and Assistance Program and the Prevention Research Program. The Treatment and Assistance Program assists women in securing care they otherwise may not be able to afford, and the Prevention Research Program helps to unlock the keys of preventing breast cancer. You can visit PinkTogether.com between the dates of from September 19, 2011 through April 14, 2012 to make your own decision. Results will be announced on Mother’s Day 2012: Sunday, May 13.

I personally connected with PinkTogether.com and voted for $1 million to be spent for the Treatment and Assistance Program. I feel that we as a country should take care of our own. My family isn’t rich, and I understand how medical bills can be stressful. I think the important thing is to try to get well, and not stress on how to afford to be well. I urge my readers to go vote for the cause they feel is most important, regardless of their choice.

Individually we are strong, but together we are stronger.

I’m 36, and I recently had a mammogram, and it turned out that I do not have breast cancer. But just the idea of it and the fear, that woke me up. So I’m going to be paying attention to anything dealing with that from now on in my life.

My Grandmother is a 30+ year survivor and my aunt passed away from breast cancer in 1991 (I was 10) so unfortunately, breast cancer has always been prevalent in my life. But it has made me very aware of my risk factors and inspires me to work toward a cure.

what inspires me most about the Pink Together community is that it is survivors sharing stories. It just makes it so much more personal.
